2009 NFL Mock draft round 1

1. Matthew Stafford - QB - Georgia - Lions

word is the lions are trying to work out a contract before sunday with him.

2. Jason Smith - OT - Baylor - Rams

pace is gone and smith should step right in at left tackle.

3. Aaron Curry - OLB - Wake Forest - Chiefs

it would not suprise me to see the chiefs trade down. b.j. raji and eugene monroe could also land here. if they dont trade i think they will take the can't miss curry. this could aldo be a landing spot for marc sanchez if a trade is made.

4. Eugene Monroe - OT - Virginia - Seahawks

there's alot of buzz about marc sanchez landing here. but perennial pro bowler walter jones is 35 and monroe would be a great addition to the line. they could also trade down if a team looking for sanchez comes calling.

5. Michael Crabtree - WR - Texas Tech - Browns

cleveland needs a pass rusher but crabtree is to good to pass up and questions surround braylon edwards future with the team and the browns also lost stallworth.

6. Andre Smith - OT - Alabama - Bengals

the bengals need serious help on the offensive line. they are pleased with smith even though he has had some issues in the past 4 months. michael oher could also land here but word is they like smith better.

7. Jeremy Maclin - WR - Missouri - Raiders

maclin is a playmaker and the raiders need an explosive reciever.

8. B.J. Raji - DT - Boston College - Jaguars

after losing marcus stroud the jags look to fill the void with raji.

9. Tyson Jackson - DE - Louisiana State - Packers

Packers swith to a 3-4 this season leaves them needing an end and jackson fits perfectly, michael oher could also go here to upgrade the o-line.

10. Michael Oher - OT - Mississippi - 49ers

the 49ers need a pass rusher but oher is the depth and possibly starter they need on the line. there are more pass rushers in later rounds they can take a shot at.

11. Everette Brown - OLB - Florida State - Bills

the bills need a pass rusher and brown will be their man. an upgrade on the o-line is needed
after trading tackle jason peters but the value is not there at this pick to do it.

12. Marc Sanchez - QB - Southern California - Broncos

chances are they will have to trade up to land him if someone doesn't do it before them. if sanchez is gone josh freeman or a defensive player like brian orakpo could be the option here. a trade with the chiefs for the 3 spot or seattle at 4 could be on the horizon.

13. Aaron Maybin - DE - Penn State - Redskins

maybin gained 20 pounds and the redskins need a d-end. they could also trade up for marc sanchez.

14. Malcom jenkins - DB - Ohio State - Saints

alot of buzz about chris wells landing here. the saints need defense, defense and more defense!

15. Brian Orakpo - OLB/DE - Texas - Texans

i'm sure the texans would love if orakpo falls here. if he is already gone clay matthews would be a good fit to the defense.

16. Rey Maualuga - ILB - Southern California - Chargers

if tyson jackson is still here they would grab him to fill the hole left by d-end igor olshansky who joined the cowboys via free agency. but maualuga is a tremdous defender.

17. Josh Freeman - QB - Kansas State - Jets

questions surround the qb position after favre's retirement.

18. Peria Jerry - DT - Mississippi - Broncos

the defense needs help. but can they pass on moreno is the real question. signing an abundance of runningbacks this off season helps them go for jerry.

19. Clay Matthews - OLB - Southern California - Buccaneers

there are a number of ways the bucs could go here. they'd love freeman to be here and may trade up to get him. wide receiver and defensive tackle are also needs. could trade picks with new england and select evander hood.

20. Darius Butler - CB - Connecticut - Lions

Lions need d-backs, butler is an impressive player. alphonso smith, cornerback out of wake forest is also an option.

21. Knowshon Moreno - RB - Georgia - Eagles

Moreno fits the system and would add great depth for the eagles.

22. Darrius Hayward-Bey - WR - Maryland -Vikings

the vikings receiving core is terrible. they hope hayward bey will add an instant up grade for new signal caller sage rosenfels

23. Robert Ayers - OLB - Tennessee - Patriots

Ayers will be a great addition in rushing the passer. last years first round pick jarrod mayo's old teammate will help fill in for the departed vrabel. if ayers is gone jarron gilbert or larry english could be options. they could also move up to take ayers.

24. Brian Cushing - OLB - Southern California - Falcons

They need young talent at olb after losing boley and brooking in free agency. cushing is the guy.

25. Larry English - OLB - Northern Illinois - Dolphins

joey porter is getting older and was a problem at times for coaches last season despite his 17 1/2 sacks. wide reciever is also an area that needs to be addressed.

26. Jarron Gilbert - DE - San Jose State - Ravens

they could just as easy go o-line by taking william beatty or eban britton to play right tackle.

27. Evander Hood - Missouri - Colts

hood fits in great to their system as a one gap tackle and adds some much needed size to the smallest d-line in the nfl.

28. William Beatty - OT - Connecticut - Bills

left tackle jason peters was traded which landed them this pick. beatty should fill in nicely who helped pave the way for donald brown's 2000 yard season.

29. Hakeem Nicks - WR - North Carolina - Giants

if the giants don't aquire braylon edward or anquan boldin before this pick they will go wide receiver.

30. Ron Brace - DT - Boston College - Titans

Tennessee could add depth to the line here by going with brace. especially after losing albert hansworth. if they like wr's percy harvin or kenny britt they could also be options.

31. Chris Wells - RB - Ohio State - Cardinals

the cardinals rush was terrible until the playoffs. james has made it no secret he's not happy there.

32. Alex Mack - C - California - Steelers

Mack will eventually be a pro bowler in this league. he could move to guard.
