The playoffs are here. here are my predictions...
American League:
Yankees sweep the Twins. Minnesota is coming off an emotional ride that ends quickly to a much better team all around. Even if Justin Morneau was healthy this would be a quick one. They just don't match up.
Red Sox beat the Angels in 5 games. This is going to be another classic late innings dramatic series. I think Boston edges them in the fifth game. I like Boston's line up and pitching slightly better than LAA. Especially late innings with Wagner, Bard and Pap. Look for JD Drew to be a big factor as he was last post season.
Red Sox in 7 over the Yankees. Call me a homer, but i think this will be a grind it out up and down series. Sabathia has never pitched well in the playoffs against the Sox. ARod still hasn't performed in the post season. We've seen Jon Lester go into the old Yankee stadium and almost throw a no hitter. I like the Sox to take this one.
National League:
Phillies sweep Rockies. Philly is stacked. They have a line up like an American league team. Far better starting pitching.
Cardinals win in 5 games over Dodgers. I have liked the red birds all season. Carpenter and Wainwright may be the best 1-2 punch in the game. Albert Pujols is the best hitter in baseball and adding Matt Holliday has been a great pick up. Manny Ramirez has not been the same guy since his suspension for failing the league's substance abuse policy for PED's.
Cardinals in 7 over the Phillies. This series could go anyway. The fact that the Phillies have home field actually is good for the Cardinals. They have hit much better at Citizens bank Ballpark than at Busch Stadium against Philly. This will be a series to remember.
World Series:
Red Sox win in 6 games over the Cardinals. The Sox have a deeper line up than the the cardinals do. They match up well in starting pitching. I think the key to this run is going to be Daisuke Matsuzaka. If he can pitch like he has, Beckett can get into playoff form and Buchholz can be serviceable. The Sox have a great chance to go all the way. This post season is going to be the final page turned for Jon Lester. He becomes the dominant starter for the rest of his career starting in the 2009 playoffs at some point.

I can't believe the Red Sox left Del Carmen off the playoff roster. Only one reason for this -RACISM. They are keepin a brother down, he's the best relief pitcher on the staff and should be on the roster
Shut up Kanya I mean Jamal
sorry for the typo Jamal i meant kanye hope my typo doesn't make you think I'm racist.
Delcarmen hasn't pitched well at all. Then his car accident a week ago leaving him a little banged up made an easy decision even easier.
hey Mike i was just reading mcadams artical with the line up and i was just thinking to myself (there is know way the sox loose this JD Drew @ the 8th spot only us and the yanks could have a talent like that at 8. another matter how bad is Fred Taylor hurt
Fred Taylor is done for the season. He has torn ligaments in his anckle. At his age it will be hard to come back so soon from that. We'll see what the Sox are made of, a short series may not be in thier favor but we've see them come back so many times it's never over until it's over. I would have been more comfortable with Matsuzaka #3 in the rotation. especially if they are down two on Sunday.
wow, sox and red birds out. I never saw that coming! All those close calls through out the season finally caught up with Pap. He had a great season except for the 24 walks he gave up.
I have one word for Pap G-O-A-T
this guy has been a decent closer the last 2 yrs that's it. u have to agree this year and last you were nervous to see him come in,unlike 06-07-08 when he was lights out. I think if there is a possibility of trading him for a guy like felix or Prince pull the trigger. Resign wagner make him the closer till bard is ready.
i haven't been totally comfortable with him this season. You still have him for 2 years at cheap money. i think i'd take my gamble on pap than a 38 year old wagner. your not going to get a frontline starter or everyday big time player for a closer.
oh believe me I know pap would have to be packaged with someone or multiple i'm just saying. Pap isn't that cheap he will make 8-9mil next year after arb.I believe after this year clay and bard are back on the untouchable list. Involving a package led by paps we could do something. What do you think we do at short? does alex gonz 6mil option get picked up? Do the sox make a play for jj hardy for some pop at the cheap because of his avg year? Do we try and lock beckett up this off season so he doesn't have a huge year and add 5 mil per season to his contract. Mike I have a million ?'s so I hope you don't mind answering a few a day.
AGon has always hit well here. he is an excellent defender and Jed Lowry gets hurt quite often. So i wouldn't think he is the everyday answer. JJ Hardy does nothing for me. He had one good year and thats it. I'd like to see Bay back here. If he can get 14 or 15 million i'm okay with that. Matt Holliday is available too. He adds some speed and better defense. Besides the walks Paps numbers are good. I was never totally comfortable with him in late innings. Bard looked tremendous in game 3 of the playoffs. I'd say he's more of an untouchable than Clay. I think Buchholz is a great #3 and maybe could develop into a solid 2. It wouldn't bother me if they trtqaded him and got something of value. He seems to be a bit of a head case. Bowden and Tazawa are young prospects that could ease his loss in the future.
Speaking of a gonz do ou think the sox may take another look at the real a gonz from the san diego? He's cheap and a great hitter and even better in the field and with lowell ortiz off the books the following year we could resign him and save money. Plus a gonz would be easier to get than fielder and wont eat his way outta the game.
I think there is no way the Padres part with Adrian Gonzalez. They night as well move the team if they do. He is cheap and the face of a franchise with a mexican fan base. I'd love to see it happen but don't think there is anyway it happens. Even if jed hoyer takes over as G.M. out there.
